The first rule of getting kids to try new unusual food is to LIE, always worked for me. Call them brownies then tell them they can’t have any until they finish their vegetable….and now watch these bite sized delights disappear. This recipe is raw, no eggs, no flour, no sugar, no dairy, no butter and packed with all the goodness of wholesome raw ingredients. The main ingredients are dates and nuts, very easy to prepare and should be stored in the freezer (since dates never freeze) for best results.

1 1/2 cups pitted dates.

1/2 cup hemp seeds.

1 cups walnut.

1/2 cup raw cocoa powder

1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

1- In a food processor combine dates and walnuts until it resembles a thick paste, add cocoa powder, hemp seeds and salt.

2- In a lined 8 inch baking pan, press the dates firmly until distributed evenly.

3- Set aside to prepare the frosting.

1/2 cup raw cocoa powder

1/4 cup maple syrup (or raw agave)

1/2 cup coconut oil.

1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract.

Pinch of salt.

1/4 cup walnut

2 Tbsp raw cocoa nibs

In a medium saucepan, heat the oil and add the maple syrup, cocoa powder and vanilla extract.

Pour evenly over date mixture in the baking sheet, sprinkle the the cocoa nibs and the walnut. Refrigerate up to 2 hours.

Cut into bite sized portions and store either in the freezer or the fridge.

Variation: I suggested a baking sheet plan for this recipe because its fast but if you want to play with shapes, you can make bite size balls and dip them into the frosting or sprinkle some ground walnuts, sprinkles or chocolate shavings.  In this picture I used an oval cookie cutter and dipped them into the chocolate.

Variation; You can also melt organic dark unsweetened chocolate on a double boiler  as an alternative to the frosting recipe. Both are delicious.
